Business Opportunities

The Mitchell's tenanted estate has a broad range of individual outlets incorporating quality food houses with letting accommodation, to community pubs and city centre outlets. Further acquisitions are also planned for the near future and targeted areas include Cumbria, North Yorkshire as well as Lancashire.

Our tenanted estate numbers 41 houses with a geographic area that encompasses Dalton in Furness in Cumbria, to Burnley in Lancashire. The vast majority of our tenanted pubs have been owned and carefully maintained by the Company for many decades, since this is central to our success.

Our tenancy agreements are on a 3 year rolling basis with protection under the landlord and Tenant (1954) Act, with rent reviews conducted every 3 years as standard practice.

Having ceased brewing in 1999, our tenants can now access an extremely broad range of cask conditioned ales from regional, independent and national brewers, which means that our pubs can stock traditional beers to cater for most tastes. We actively encourage tenants to increase the number of cask ales on offer. A number of our tenants now hold beer festivals so as to build on the popularity of well-kept cask beers, and we provide advice and support to our licensees so as to maximise these opportunities.

Other support includes menu and wine list advice, regular promotional activity from our principle suppliers Carlsberg Tetley, Coors & Interbrew, and most importantly the services of a dedicated Business Development Manager to help you make a success of your tenancy.

"We enjoy being tenants for Mitchell's because it is a family run company and they are always at hand if you have a problem. We feel more secure than if we were a tenant for a large company"

Michael Cairns - The Anglers Arms, Haverthwaite

Our tenancies operate on a fully tied basis for drinks, with a 50/50 share-out from AWP (Amusement with Prizes) machines. Any income from pool tables and juke boxes belongs to our tenants.

In recent years, we have begun investing heavily in our tenanted houses, and both the company and individual licensees have reaped the benefits.

We firmly believe that the business relationship that works best between tenant and landlord is one based on partnership, and a shared desire to grow and develop each of our houses so as to fulfil their potential.

"Great people, Great Company"

John Jacks & Kim Larsen - The Fleece Inn, Dolphinholme

We are confident that we have the right blend of quality pubs to appeal to a broad range of potential tenants. You may be used to operating a busy food house, a town centre venue, or a wet-led community pub, and in all these cases, we will have business opportunities for the right applicants. Some of our most successful pubs have been operated by the same tenants for 15 years or so, and we feel that this is a testimonial to the positive relationship, we nurture with our tenants, and our company ethos of partnership.
